Vitamins: How Much is Too Much? Hyper-vitaminosis: the result of consuming enough of a vitamin to cause a toxic reaction. The importance of vitamins in a dog's diet was not understood until relatively recently. As a result, today vitamin poisoning is a far more serious concern than deficiency. While it's important to supply the needed vitamins, it is not necessary to be overly exuberant in supplementing them. A healthy diet will supply what is required. Calcium & Phosphorus: Minerals for Optimal Health Milk: Supplies both in the right amounts and ratio, plus a host of vitamins and protein close to the ideal amount found in eggs. Bone meal: When fed in a finely ground form (for digestibility) bone meal supplies the exact required ratio of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium for a dog. |
